"The Sugarplum Trap" in PlayGround's "A Very Hitchcock Christmas"

My short play “The Sugarplum Trap,” a Christmas-themed parody of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Notorious, will be featured in PlayGround SF’s delightfully twisted holiday show. See what happens when a suave Interpol agent recruits a down-on-her luck cocktail waitress to spy out the hidden secrets of Santa’s workshop!

The evening will also feature holiday twists on other Hitchcock classics like Vertigo and Rear Window, by local playwrights Jeffrey Lo, Cleavon Smith, Alexis Standridge, Eteya Trinidad, and Maury Zeff.

“The Sugarplum Trap” is directed by Emilie Talbot and features actors Nicole Apostol Bruno, Emily Keyishian, Nic Sommerfeld, and Mark Truitt.

There will be two evening performances at Potrero Stage in San Francisco on December 10 and 11, plus options to stream the show from home through December 31. More information and ticket links here.

"Millennial: A Fragment" in "Adventures in Place"

A dispatch from 2020; a dress from Y2K. During lockdown, a thwarted playwright tries to make sense of the 21st century by writing time-travel fiction.

I will be reading selections from the novel I tried to write in June 2020 as part of the EXIT Theatre’s “Adventures in Place: A Post, a Poem, a Prayer.” For 12 nights in November, Stuart Bousel and friends will be presenting work created during and in response to the first two years of the Pandemic.

The show has different “special guests” each night so I am only appearing on Thursday November 10, but I encourage you to check out the other evenings if you are unable to attend my specific night!

Tickets are $20 in cash at the door.

"A Stitch in Time" in Monday Night PlayGround

Those who best understand history are doomed to repeat it.

My short play “A Stitch in Time” will have a staged reading in the first Monday Night PlayGround of the 2022-23 season, directed by Jim Kleinmann.

Other featured playwrights that evening are Monique Hafen Adams, Justin P. López, Bridgette Dutta Portman, Eteya Trinidad, and Maury Zeff. Each of us wrote a 10-minute play inspired by the prompt “In Disguise” — mine is about what it takes to blend in as a time-traveling historian!

In addition to the live performance at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, the evening will be simulcast and available for streaming.

For more information and to reserve pay-what-you-can tickets, visit PlayGround’s website.

Hanging Out with Playwrights in the EXIT Café

Before the pandemic hit, San Francisco’s EXIT Theatre was set to stage my short play “The Great Man Theory” in summer 2020, part of an anthology evening of short plays titled These People’s History of the 20th Century.

The production has been rescheduled for next year, but in the meantime, 7 of the 20th Century writers did a Facebook livestream with the EXIT’s Amanda Ortmayer about our project and how we are dealing with the tumult of 2020.

You can watch the video recording of our chat here.

PLEASE KEEP ME HONEST (MUSIC/SCENE)

My new 10-minute play, PLEASE KEEP ME HONEST, will be performed every Monday night in March as part of MUSIC/SCENE, a show that pairs local playwrights with local singer-songwriters. The play, about 3 generations of women and why they moved to San Francisco, was inspired by Tommy P's song "Hemingway"; it features actors Elizabeth Ho, Tina Marzell, and Iris Stone and is directed by Bert van Aalsburg. Tickets $10.
